SPECIAL FREE ONLINE PERFORMANCE for Florida Holocaust Education Week for educators and their students in grades K-12.

THE PROGRAM

Honor Holocaust Education Week by joining students across Florida for this special event. Students and educators will experience a 45-minute livestreamed event including a theatrical performance and concert based on the best-selling book The Children of Willesden Lane. They will also have opportunities to interact with author, performer and virtuoso concert pianist, Mona Golabek. Hold On To Your Music, USC Shoah Foundation and Echoes & Reflections will launch the first statewide Willesden READS with this performance on November 13th, thanks to the vision and leadership of The Florida Holocaust Museum and The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida.

A recording of the performance will be available on demand for a limited time.

THE STORY

The Children of Willesden Lane is the best-selling book about the power of music and how one teenage refugee, Lisa Jura, held onto her dreams, survived the Holocaust and inspired a generation of her contemporaries. Today’s worldwide humanitarian crises and the importance of standing up against bigotry and hatred are reflected in the continued, growing relevance of this book.

EVENT FOLLOW UP STARTING JANUARY 2021

Book Distribution – Limited print and eBook versions of The Children of Willesden Lane appropriate to various grade levels will be available in classroom sets through The Florida Holocaust Museum’s Teaching Trunks program. Districts will also be given information on purchasing books directly for classroom use.

Professional Development – Educators will receive in-depth information, complementary resources and digital classroom activities tailored by grade level for teaching The Children of Willesden Lane.
